Surface Pro 7 crashing while using the camera

Description

When using the camera or trying to save a job in LT1  immediately after using the camera, the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 crashes resulting in a BSOD/Stop Error (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/troubleshoot-stop-errors).

LPI has seen Surface Pro 7 tablets with no modifications from LPI and without any LPI-related software installed exhibit this behavior. Not all Surface Pro 7’s have exhibited this issue but the ones that do, experience it in both the LT application as well as any other program that uses the tablet’s camera.

Cause

This behavior is related to a firmware and driver combability issue on the tablet hardware itself. Firmware resides directly on the hardware and with a recent update that was released by Microsoft, this bug was introduced.

Resolution

At this time, there are no fixes. Due to the nature of the bug, LPI is unable to correct the issue. Microsoft does not provide access to this level of code to third-party developers.
