As you may be aware, Windows 10 is no longer receiving security patches from Microsoft, which means devices running this operating system are increasingly vulnerable to security threats. If you’re currently using a Surface Pro 7+ or older tablet, we want to help you understand your options and the benefits of each approach.
Our recommendation: Replace older tablets
While Windows 11 can technically run on some older devices, we’ve found that newer tablets provide a significantly better experience. Devices like the Surface Pro 7+ and earlier models often lack the system resources to run Windows 11 efficiently, which can result in slower performance and impact your productivity.
Modern tablets with a minimum of an Intel i5/Ultra5 CPU and 8GB of RAM offer several practical advantages:
- Improved processing speed for everyday tasks and multitasking
- Built-in security features at the hardware level
- Better battery life and energy efficiency
- Full compatibility with current software and future updates
- More responsive performance overall
We’re here to help you find a replacement device that meets these specifications and fits your workflow needs. If you prefer to source a device independently, we can provide guidance on what to look for.
Alternative option: Extended Security Updates
If replacing your tablet isn’t immediately feasible, Microsoft offers a Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program that provides continued security patches for a limited time. This gives you additional time to plan for an upgrade while maintaining security. You can learn more at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/whats-new/extended-security-updates.
How this impacts your software (LT1 vs. LT3)
LT1 (Legacy Software)
LT1 can run on Windows 11, but some users have reported performance or stability issues. This is due to LT1 originally being developed for Windows XP and older system architecture. While still usable, it may not run as smoothly on modern operating systems
LT3 Raptor (Current Software)
LT3 is built using Microsoft’s modern development standards and is fully compatible with Windows 11. We are not aware of or foresee any issues running on supported hardware with Windows 11.
